Its a toss up between the Knockdown impromptu 'ruse' kiss, the above gif of Cops & Robbers, to the infamous Kate at Ricks door at end of Always, telling him "I Just Want Y o u!!", to them finally getting together, ...... to the follow up scene at Season 5 Episode 1 After The Storm, to Rick waking up alone in bed, .....getting worried --- then in walks Kate wearing nothing but one of his shirts. And informing him that their night together was not a one night only -- or a mistake. ie Caskett was now ON!!! and unofficially a Couple. Which everyone had been waiting for over 4 years. Castle the show and Caskett the Couple had all fandom awake virtually all night, and messageboards, sites extremely active for the next 4 years. And Season 5 became the most watched season, till the engagement happened, then Season 6 became the most watched season.
Plus of course the other above thread of Still...... Still became a very important ep encapsulating seasons 1-5 in one hit. But Always and After the Storm where the coupleship of Caskett officially started.

Some of my favourite scenes were in the episode 3x1 A Deadly Affair......Castle always being in the wrong place when the cops came calling, the boys giving him a hard time on his return.....a fun episode.

Something a little different. This conversation between Beckett and Castle at the end of #222 " Food to Die For". It revealed Kate's insecurity in seeing Castle as more than a friend and hence the Demming storyline. Of course, all that caution didn't pay off as we then had the appearance of Gina-but then maybe it did show Castle as the kind of guy who just went from one love interest to the next? So maybe Castle did let 'her' down because he chose Gina so easily and quickly after his rejection by Kate? Beckett certainly put the bricks in that infamous wall after that let down.

Season 4 Cuffed - the ep that hooked me to this show. The final scene after the rescue - Rick comments about being 'hitched' to Kate again. To which Kate quickly questioned the word, till he changed it. And Kate saying that she wouldnt mind being 'hitched' to Rick again either. Walking off, in her ? way, turning around to see Rick again, then Rick having a nervous smile/smirk . That one scene gave the fandom hope. Which happened in s4 finale, Always -- then s5 opener, After the Storm.

Cops & Robbers. Two scenes out of a few: The rescue scene of Rick and the others taken hostage. When Kate sees he is ok. (and alive!). Her radiant grin said it all. So did his loving look back at her. They were in love -- and this is the first time Kate had shown it without thinking/hesitation.
The other one is her at his loft. He was bantering with her re how many times he has saved her, after she just found him alive after the explosion in the bank, that killed the robbers.

Sad they stopped using music as much as time went by in Castle, thought it really made some scenes iconic.

And the first major music used was the last scene in the Pilot, ie Stop and Stare. (My radio station here in Sydney every now and then plays that song. It always makes me think of the above).

As previously...mentioned Season 1, episode 5 A chill Goes Thru Her Veins, when Kate tells Rick of how she and her father discovered her mother was murdered. Our first taste of the method acting of Stana Katic, and the brilliance of that scene. A very powerful and moving scene. Kate also explained the importance and relevance of why she wears her fathers watch, to remind of her of the life she saved, and the why she wears her mothers engagement ring. This episode and scene also was pivotal in being the cornerstone of the major murder mystery of the series, Castle.
As also mentioned in Open Thread, this episode was written by an unknown writer, who I dont think has written any other episodes. Bryan Spicer directed it. (He's been on Hawaii 5-0 for quite a while, as has Moira Kirland, and was recently joined by.....Rob Hanning).
This episode also had Rick enlisting Espo's help as in getting the file of Johanna Beckett murder case so that Rick could privately investigate it.

And this was revealed in Season 1 episode 5....A Chill Goes Through Her Veins.....written by Charles Murray. His only episode. And a pivotal one, and one to start (part of) the cornerstone of the series.

Kate's Cinderella moment by Rick at a Gala event Fundraiser. Rick buys Kate a gown.

Rick grabs Kate for a 'ruse' dance, designed to check out the attendees as possible suspects. Kate tells Rick what the Patron says the women describe him as. ie 'White shale'.

I will quickly add this thought re everything: another observation: Marlowe being Creator, must have (??) told the writers - or at least gave guidelines -- just what specific details re Kate and Rick (and other supporting characters) were to be divulged and when, in order to whet viewers appetites to keep watching the show as it evolved.

Season 1 episode 10 A Death In The Family: Rick asks ? to look into Johanna Becketts murder. He later tells Kate he wants to look into the murder. Kate tells him not to.
Rick explains to Kate a reason why he likes her and a reason why he chose her to be his muse??): because you care. Most people come up aginst a wall, they give up ---Not You - You dont Let Go. You dont Back Down. Thats what Makes you Extraordinary".

Rick walks out and back home. Alexis gives him insight on (some) boys/men behaviour.
Rick returns to 12th and apologises to Kate. Kate then says "See you tomorrow". Thus ending a trio if powerful and profound scenes.

Season 2 episode When The Bough Breaks Writer Rene Echevarria

Martha says to Alexis when they are drinking, "hey kiddo, one thing Ive learned in life is that nothing ever lasts" ---and the camera shot/scene goes to Kate arriving............
Kate dosnt like the cameras on her. The Press/photographers are calling her Nikki Heat.
Few minutes later she reads the dedication: "To the extraordinary KB and all my friends at the 12th".
After Gala, the next day, blend of Rick's call with Paula, and Kates with Captain Montgomery about the same thing.
Rick is being offered to write 3 more Nikki Heat books. Captain Montgomery advises Kate to allow Rick to keep shadowing her. The Mayor likes the novel Naked Heat. Kate dosnt want to, but knows she has to. Rick sees Kates reaction to the news of the continuation and gets away from his call to Book Agent Paula.
Kate meanwhile is annoyed at Rick. He feigns innocense, and swears he didnt influence his good buddy the Mayor, to allow it to happen. ie If the Mayor is happy, the Commissioner is happy, and so then is Captain Montgomery.
Kate then says to Rick "Swear a little harder!!!"

Season 2 episode 13 (Infamous) Sucker Punch Writer....Will Beall....
There are way too many scenes, but will do all as all are relevant.
Body of man bleeding drips down to floor below which is being painted. Vics name is Jack Coonan. He is part of Irish Mob. Kate and Rick visit their bar and meet boss. Outside they meet mans girlfriend. Who gives them key to locker - which inside is heroin in dvd? case. Kate and Rick also speak to vics brother, Dick Coonan.
Lanie and another ME visit 12th. Same knife that killed vic ....also killed Kates mother.
Kate meets her father, lawyer Jim Beckett who says Johanna believed in the truth, that it is a weapon, so wield it.
That was a very powerful scene. Kate then goes to Ricks loft to say she wants to find her mothers killer.
Rick also tells Kate why he chose her to be his next muse: she is tall - (ie brave/goes the 2nd mile/strong/extraordinary).
Evidence also shows that Dick Coonan killed his own brother. Dick Coonan tells a bogus story of another hitman. Rick will pay the $100,000 to fund the con hit.
During the failed sting, Kate realises that it was a con/bogus. She realises this at the precinct. Dick Coonan at 12th, and then takes Rick hostage. Captain Montgomery aims to shoot, but Kate stops him as she wants the man alive.
Rick headbutts Coonan, stunning him, Coonan aims to shoot Rick, Kate then shoots Coonan, who dies. Dick Coonan is man who killed Johanna.
Later on, Rick tells Kate he is finishing. That he almost got her shot. Kate then tells him that she wouldnt have caught her mothers killer if not for him. And there will be another shooting if he tells anyone she said the next bit: She has gotten used to him 'pulling her pigtails'. He makes her job a little more fun. Kate smiles at Rick.

Hi everyone!
Soo many moments to savor and yet so many more that were never seen...
I hope that it's ok to post the scene, if not, please delete.
One that immediately comes to mind, the sofa talk in To Love & Die in LA. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBkECGHRKKg
They are sitting so close together, it's a quiet moment between them and an honest talk. Kate tell Rick about Mike, Rick tells Kate what he thought of her. And then Stana does that subtle change to her smile (as she did in the pilot) when Kate realises that she is getting caught up in the moment and what the next moment could mean. The song chosen is just perfect to convey what's going on. And it doesn't matter how many times I watch that scene, in my head, when Rick gets up it's because Kate has come back into the room!

My other favorite moment is several, starting when Rick sits straight up and when Ryan arrives at her apartment. The morning after the night before in After the Storm. Rick relaxes as soon as he sees Kate enter with the coffees. He then needs to know whether it's just a now thing because Kate has nothing better to do. They are finally on the same page at the same time wanting it to be 'more'. Then deciding what to do with their day...Let the fun begin. (I know a lot of fans hated the interruption but for me it just continued the playful vibe that I got. And then as I said, it continues all the way to Ryan arriving at Kate's apartment).

S2 episode 6 3XK Writer...David Amann
The most pivotal scene is the last one where after Rick's ordeal after being tied up by 3XK (who became Rick's nemesis), is outside the motel where Rick was held hostage, and Kate comes and sits next to him, and puts her hand on his knee to comfort him. A very profound scene, and Kate is showing that she likes him. (She is also showing that she is attracted to him).
I think that scene was also written to give hope to Caskett fans for something more maybe about to happen with Caskett.
(David Amann became the showrunner in Season 7).

Many many thanks KB for posting that video scene!!! (I myself can only see via library). That scene was such a magical, powerful, honest, frank, romantic, and also vulnerable (by Kate) and hopeful scene, of Season 3 and of the entire series. I think of anyones home of a fan who saw it, one could hear a pin drop while watching it --- especially when Kate went to her room, and thought about the possibility of sleeping with Rick, then opened her door -- and found him gone to his room!! The scene was to me, brilliant - also because it showed Kate being vulnerable, honest, yet also scared/terrified of the posibility of the unknown, and especially not knowing if she could trust Rick with her heart.

B. :-) Many thanks KB for posting that video scene!!! I think the main reason for this scene was to ensure the fans of Caskett that they were indeed a couple and that their night together was not a one off. Another reason for the scene was to show Kate being playful , after 4 years of being standofffish and afraid/frightened/terrified of being in a romantic relationship with Rick. And another reason was to show how flirty - and also loving that Kate was, and also that she was in love with Rick, and no longer wanting or wishing her past to define her. I also enjoyed the bit where Martha and Alexis returned home unexpectedly!! and so begun the hiding escapades!!! that entire scene was romatic and hilarious!!! --- and as you say -- continued back at Kates - with Rick -- when Ryan arrived unexpectedly. That entire scene/s were brilliant!!

Season 3 episode 11 Nikki Heat Writer David Grae
This episode is entirely full of one liners and scenes re Caskett --- and Kate as herself and Nikki. It is also brilliant and totally hilarious.
Rick, Kate and the boys meet Natalie at crime scene when she arrives. Rick is totally unimpressed that Natalie dosnt know/realise who he is. Ryan is charmed by Natalie.
At station, Natalie starts to copy Kates mannerisms down pat (ie exactly), shocking Kate and Rick and also thrilling/exciting Rick. Natalie still unimpressed by Rick. Rick still unimpressed by that.
Natalie does tell Rick that did read Heatwave, she realises that Kate is Nikki and he is Rook and also kisses Rick in lift -- seen by Kate.
The scene of Natalie taking delivery of and wearing a Kate type of business suit is hilarious. Natalie is so convincing as Kate as Nikki, that one of the Uniformed officers hands Natalie a case file -- in front of Kate - shocking and annoying Kate.
Plus scene of Natalie taking down notes of what Kate says for Nikki research, but ignoring/discounting what Rick says -- unimpressing him further.
Natalie wants to do a good job of playing Nikki Heat in the movie.
