OK, so you can choose favourite scenes and lines and even entire episodes but how about who was you favourite Castle Writer over the eight seasons?
You know the one that just seemed to 'get' the characters and stayed pretty true to the canon of the show? Let's give those Writers who gave us something special a 'Tip of the hat' as Marlowe recently tweeted.

My fave writer was Rob Hanning. He gave us quite a few Classic Castle episodes. Including infamous Still. Which is probably one of the most watched eps of the series since season 5, and probably since then.
Rob Hanning also wrote the brilliant episode Veritas (but I dont think he wanted the infamous Kate putting away her mothers ring scene not included in actual broadcast). Veritas was the pinnacle ending to the Johanna Beckett murder case. It saw the final arresting of the man who ordered her killing, Senator William Bracken, by Kate, at his press conference. This was after Johanna's and then Kates family of elephants that adorned Kates desk, actually hid the tape that contained the recording of Bracken, the 4 cops involved in the kidnapping for ransome the mobsters, and thus proving Brackens guilt.
Veritas was brilliant in its writing, and plotting of the ep, execution of, and the acting of all concerned, was top notch. Veritas is also what all fans of the show had also wanted to see happen. It was 6 years in the making.

Even though Terrence Paul Winter fell foul by season 8..... he wrote Season 5 ep 4 infamous Murder He Wrote. That episode remains a firm fave. Plus it is absolutely hilarious. The episode starts of with Rick trying to get out of the loft and surprising Kate at the precinct, when he was meant to be waiting for her outside it, because they were having a weekend away at his beach house in the Hamptons. His mother and daughter were giving him countless ideas. He turns up on a chair, behind Kate who is busily nervously watching the clock tick by. She wants to get away before being seen. That didnt happen. The boys knew she was going away with her 'boyfriend'and wanted to know who it was. rick played up with the boys. Kate wouldnt talk.
Kate and Rick then arrive at the Hamptons, and Kate is shocked and impressed? by the sheer size of the place. Then she starts to feel uneasy about all Rick's ''other women'', and Rick explains that none of them 'were her''
Kate decides to do a bit of skinnydipping -- till a man falls into the pool dead. And the police are called. And Chief Brady thinks Kate is a prostitute............. Rick and Kate do some investigating, and Rick calls the boys at the precinct. They want to find out who Kates boyfriend is...........Rick and Kate go to the local wateringhole. Rick gets himself in trouble. Rick and Kate land in jail, while the Chief does some checking. He later learns who Kate is, and wants her /their help. Rick then coins their names eventually to a suitable petname: Caskett - ie the whole 'murder thing''.
rick invites a local mobster for lunch and inadvertently insults him. Chief Brady wants them off case. Ryan inadvertently learns that Rick and Kate are a couple and his expression is absolutely priceless!!
The case is solved. Caskett settle down for what they came there for. the episode was brilliant in its writing, plotting, execution of, and direction.

It would be remiss of me not to mention Series Creator and Writers, Andrew Marlowe, who wrote the Pilot episode, aka Season 1 Episode 1, Flowers For Your Grave. Andrew penned this gem of a Pilot about world famous mystery novelist Richard Castle, who was a single father to a mid teenage daughter, and who had his mother, a flamboyant tv and stage actress who was down on her luck, being swindled out of her money by her last husband, so who lived with son Richard.
Castle the show, was about Richard Castle, writer who got bored with his former character and after meeting NYPD Homicide detective, decided to get his friend, the Mayor, to use influence and be able to follow Detective Kate Beckett, whom he decided to use as his latest muse for next series of novels, Nikki Heat.
Also part of the characters were two different male Homicide Detectives, Irish American Kevin Ryan, and Latino, Javier Esposito, a former Special Forces sniper. Plus the female Medical Examiner Lanie Parrish, who became Kate's best friend, plus the Captain of the Precinct, Roy Montgomery, who was mentor to Kate, and also her 'other' father figure/uncle.
The other premise of the show was that Det Kate Beckett was a strong, hardworking, virtually married to the force, cop. She was also mourning and traumatised by the murder of her mother, a lawyer.
Castle became a hit. Richard Castle decided he also wanted to get involved in helping solve the murder of Kates mother. Viewers wanted Castle and Beckett together as a couple. By the end of the Pilot, it was obvious that the chase was happening.
Must also give a shout out to Andrew's wife, writer Terri Edda Miller, who also wrote memorable episodes, which will be also mentioned.
Castle the show was brilliant, with the magic of the chemistry of actors Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic as they portrayed their characters. There was no other show with a writer and his muse. This magic was on display from the Pilot ep, Flowers For Your Grave.

Will Beal wrote Season 1 episode 7 Home Is Where The Heart Is, and this ep shows Rick showing his caring side re Kate. Ie he bought her a beautiful gown to wear to a Fundraising Benefit Gala. He didnt have to. But he did. He also signed the card "Bippity Boppity Boo" ie Cinderella. This gesture could have been him 'peeling back the Beckett layers', but it was still nice of him to do it.
Will Beal wrote a few of the Johanna Beckett murder episodes.

Has anyone noticed that there more male writers of Castle than women??? Wonder if that was by design, or it just evolved that way?? In the top right photo, there are 7 men and 4 women, and in the lower photo, there are 7 men and 5 women. Interesting. Included are series Creator and his wife, Terri Edda Miller. Some eps Andrew wrote alone, or with another male, and others he wrote with Terri.

I will fast forward 7 seasons to 8, and give kudos to whoever decided to get Casting to cast Rainey Spurlock to play the role of Lily Castle in the finals secs of Crossfire. Rainey is virtually the spitting image of how Stana Katic was in the beginning. ala pic above of Stana as Kate Season 1.

David Grae who wrote Season 2 episode 11 The 5th Bullet re the amnesiac man. The episode was full of snappy one liners and also gave viewers/fans hope for a possible romance between Rick and Kate.
The episode also happened to have the first dialogue re Sherlock /(ie PI), with cap and magnifying glass. This would become a reality with the PI arc storyline in Season 7. With Kate buying Rick gifts of cap and magnifying glass.
Although in this episode, Rick was referring to the labrador he befriended, who also coindentally belonged to the amnesiac man. involved in this episode.

Moira Kirland. Who wrote infamous Tick Tick Tick -- and introduced the character of FBI Profiler Agent Jordan Shaw.
Who among other things, thought Rick and Kate were sleeping together. Plus she observed how Rick observed Kate.
Tick Tick Tick, according to Castle Wiki page, and was never changed or added, states that this ep was the highest rated ep (till season 5 or 6??). Dana Delaney who played Agent Jordan Shaw, previously played the older wife of Nathan Fillion in Desperate Housewives.
I checked the wiki page during season 8. It hadnt yet been changed. But that dosnt mean that the actual highest ep wasnt in Season 5 or 6.
The clever and witty and double entendre dialogue re Kate and Rick by each other, and the boys, makes this ep very very funny, as does the tone and delivery of said lines. Moira Kirland had a clever way to write the dialogue for each of the characters per their scenes.
The action scenes re the killer is thrilling, as are the thriller parts. The last scene of Kates apartment being blown up is indeed shocking.

David Grae again for his brilliant writing of the brilliant and infamous episode, Nikki Heat, one of The Best eps of the entire series.
Nikki Heat the episode is chock full of one liners, and scenes re Caskett and Kate and her mannerisms. Virtually every scene is re one of them, and some scenes have both ie the scene and the line.
I imagine they all must have had a hilarious time filming this episode.

Will Beall as mentioned above. He wrote infamous Knockdown.
Kate shows Rick her own private mothers murder board at her home.
Infamous lines ala/eg : Kate "Why do you keep coming back R i c k??" --- the first time in an emotional/tender/private moment, that Kate had called Rick by his first name, and not called him 'Castle'. It shocked Rick as he gulped.
Rick said "Like it or not. Im your plucky sidekick"
Kate "Plucky sidekick Always gets killed"
Rick "Partner then"
Kate "ok"
Will Beall also gave us the first kiss. It was a ruse kiss to distract a bouncer/guard who was watching 'Hal Lockwood' water torture Espo and Ryan.
Rick had a 'crazy idea' to distract the man. He decided to kiss Kate. He took her by surprise. Kate then kissed Rick back. And what a kiss it was too!!!! One of The Best kisses Kate and Rick (Caskett) shared. And one of the most watched videos/youtubes/dvd scenes ever watched/seen.
Rick knocks out 'Hal Lockwood' after water torturing Ryan and Espo, and after trying to kill Kate. Kate wraps bandages over Ricks hand, and says:
"Thank you for having my back in there".
Rick says his first "Always".
Will Beall was one of the best Detective Kate Beckett, and her mother, Johanna Beckett, murder writers this show had.

I will give another shout out to Rob Hanning. The infamous episode Still is a Castle Classic episode. It wasnt 'just' a clip ep, it also continued the story of Caskett. Two pivotal things emerged: Captain Gates Did know about them, and used plausable deniability to 'not dob then in' or remove Rick. Gates also allowed them to continue working together.
Plus Kate also told Rick that she loved him in those exact words.
The way that Rob Hanning put together Still was brilliant, extremely clever, and so knew the Caskett fans, and I think knew the show as much as possibly Andrew Marlowe, and also knew the show as much as Stana Katic did.

I will also give a huge kudos to Elizabeth Beall/nee Davis!!!! Liz's hubby, Will was the writer of Johanna Beckett murder case, as well as many Kate Beckett eps.
Liz Beall/Davis wrote from S2: One Man's Treasure, BOOM, Season 3: Almost Famous, One Life to Lose, (Temptation Lane) Season 4 was: .....The Limey.....,Season 5 was.....infamous......Cloudy With a Touch of Murder.....,
Season 6 is also...Dressed to Kill.....
Liz Beall also knew how to write for Caskett fans, for Kate fans, for Stana fans.
Interestinly, her pic is not in either of the two above....

Next shout out is to ex husband and wife writers, Chad Gomez Creasey and Dara Resnik Creasey who were next in line to Rob Hanning and Terri Miller for writing romance/couple-partners eps.
They first started in Season 6, and their first eps together were ep 8, Murder is Forever, then they also did....ep 15, Smells Like Teen Spirit, which included the infamous winter prom that Caskett danced to and discovered 'their song' for the wedding dance, was.....In My Veins.
Season 7 they wrote....ep 3 Clear and Present Danger with that make out session.......(plus the invisible force attacking Kate and Rick).
Chad Gomez Creasey also singularly wrote.....Hong Kong Shuffle, which dealt with Kate questioning where she was in her career, and her future.
Terri Miller wrote of course, the infamous Baby ep ie season 6 ep 10, The Good, the Bad, and the Baby.
Chad Creasey is also the writer, who famously had the twitter 10 Questions chat with Stana with fans during Season 6 or 7.

Terri Edda Miller aka Mrs Andrew Marlowe....
She, apart from Rob Hanning, really knew how to write for Caskett. Her eps being: The Good the Bad and the Baby, Time Will Tell, and The wrong Stuff. She also co wrote with Andrew. s4 Cuffed, s5 The Lives of Others, (unfortunately also co wrote 6.23), she also co wrote Hollanders Woods.
I think Terri Edda Miller was better at writing for Caskett, than Andrew was.

I will say it yet again, kudos to Rob Hanning --- and especially for s8 ep 7 ep The Last Seduction. Hanning really knew how to write for Caskett, even with s8. He knew how to write romance. And even with the 1st Anniversary, and the separation, their having dinner and their 'time out from the time out' was written well, and gave more hope to Caskett fans.

This is extremely profoundly sad and tragic because of the age of Dara Resniks daughter. Dara was a writer of s5 or 6 ? She is on the extreme left of the top pic of the show writers.; Dara's daughter is . . . 10. 10. And she said 'How many'.
