A translation from a French publication....google is not the best translator.....
“To date, no trailers of Absentia have been unveiled. It is therefore without any a priori that we discovered this first episode. And we were not disappointed! From the first minutes, Absentia takes us with its dark and (somewhat) violent atmosphere. In the center of the action, Stana Katic gives a shattering performance in this first episode. Even if we had already seen it in this kind of scenes in some episodes of Castle, the actress goes even further and is amazing.
Mi family drama mid police investigation, Absentia should fill all fans of thriller. One thing is for sure: the audience of the Monte Carlo TV Festival seems to have liked this first episode applauded for a while by fans of Stana Katic. No release date has been announced at this time.”

A brief review of the episode. ....
BACK ON THE FIRST VERY PROMISING ABSENTIA
Yesterday was the opening of the 57th Monte-Carlo Television Festival with world premiere screening of the series Absentia with Stana Katic, ex-heroine of Castle. The team of LiFE was present and we reveal to you exclusively what we thought of this new series will make talk about it.
Stana Katic, after being thanked for the series Castle, returns on the small screen carrying a major role in this series. She plays the part of an agent of the FBI, Emily Byrne, disappeared for six years, found in a wooden cabin between life and death. Upon her return, she learns that her husband has rebuilt his life and that his son is brought up by another woman. Very soon after her return, Emily finds herself mixed up with a new series of murder.
The first episode of the series begins in a brutal way: the image is jerky flashes symbolizing the blows to the FBI agent, we plunge into history from the first minutes. The episode, which lasts 52 minutes, traces us the scene of a thriller series well-tied. We meet the characters who wear it, the setting is set and our mind transported. The last few seconds of it end up making us want to follow this series. We get out of the projection by having predictions about each of the characters and looking forward to plunge back into this universe.
Each episode lasts 55 minutes and keeps the viewer in suspense. Written by Matt Cirulnik based on a Gaie Violo script, the series will feature 10 episodes directed by Oded Ruskin (Sony Pictures Television Distribution).
On stage as in conferences, complicity and good atmosphere are the master word between the members of the team. Produced in the United States, this thriller transcends borders. Oded Ruskin is the director supported by Israeli creators Maria Feldman and Amit Cohen known for their success with their previous series False Flag. The casting is international including Patrick Heusinge no longer present, Emily's husband, Cara Theobold, Neil Jackson, Angel Bonanni, Bruno Bichir, Ralph Ineson, Richard Blake ...
The series, toured in Europe, many in Bulgaria, is expected to be released in autumn on some Sony chains, including AXN. More soon…

Hi everyone!
Siegmund thank you for creating this space as I love spoilers but understand that others don't. Given the uncertainty about which countries will be viewing, I would definitely enjoying knowing how the episodes are being received. Like the good ol' days of Castle when fans got together and discussed.

Just an interesting observation: Castle was 42 minutes plus adds to make up 60. Absentia first ep is 52 minutes and the rest is 55 minutes. So that means people see more of Stana Katic in Absentia. (ie in Castle minutes were also alloted to Martha, Alexis, Espo Ryan and Gates and Lanie/Perlmutter and other guest characters.).
The fact that Stana is also an Executive Producer is also another new string to her bow.

Really interesting. Thank you. Interesting in not only what they said about the show, but their general reactions. Not much given away if you've been following along. The intensity (very and dark) of the show and it's dramatic pace ( exceptionally fast) seems to have impressed everyone favorably. The explosive opening gripped everyone. All the acting was riveting, realistic and poignant to these viewers. Everyone cried at some point and several at a number of scenes. Everyone had a favorite scene. Stana blew them all away. Spectacular work. Fearful stunts. Emily is very different from Kate. She comes from a totally different place. The performances and the story were so captivating that things like music and sets did not matter at all to the group. They were completely caught up. All were excited to see the next episodes. More interested than ever to see Absentia.

The more I think about Absentia and other peoples' reactions, I don't think it will be on any of the broadcast and possibly only one of a few of the cable networks would make sense. Absentia sounds very hard edged. Nothing like the lightness of Castle. Streaming video seems to be the most likely way it would work. Reports seem to indicate a product something in the vein of "The Bridge" or "The Tunnel." Network execs would have to make some unusual decisions to take on something like Absentia. It does sound like whoever gets this show is going to have an artistic winner.

I think maybe you're expecting much more than it really is- it isn't really much of a promo. I kept waiting to see more when I clicked on it also...

What I was expecting. They appear to have a very high energy approach to telling the story. Glad they get to the action right away. I hate those shows that take forever to get you to the dead body. I'm looking forward to seeing Absentia. There are no new plots in the movies and on TV. It's just who well you execute the details.

I don't like the torture part but who knows when I'll have the show available in the US? I wont like the torture part either. Watching Kate getting waterboarded in Belly of the Beast was bad enough! I have doubts that we here in Australia will see Absentia.

Veritas - hmm wonder why SONY has stopped all promos for the series? I was kinda hoping that given the minds that inhabit this board, we might have dissected the trailer like the good old days of Castle.
The one promo that I saw seemed to be focused on the characters even though there seems to be plenty of action. The emotion in Nick's voice when he shouts for Emily. Did I imagine a love scene? If so, is it in the present when Nick is married to Alice or someone's memory. Did Flynn acknowledge his mother? I had a flashback to Beckett when Stana lowered her voice saying she didn't know who she was any more. It took me to when she told Castle she had no memory of her shooting or some of her sessions with Dr Worff. And I still want to know if Nick is the one who finds her, if so how and why was he looking? Despite having declared her dead, did he never give up that he would find her? And who is the guy on that bed? Soo many questions for me already - can't wait to get the answers, whether I see it or read it.
B. :-)

I have doubts that we here in Australia will see Absentia. I don't think the US will see it either and I'm not real sure I care. Violence is one thing but torture is a whole different thing. I wonder if Stana is looking into other projects? Maybe without torture?
