Where is the hell do Nick and his family live? It's like in the middle of nowhere-is that normal Boston residential? Then the scene where his second wife goes outside with the dog-seriously what the hell was she thinking! Then when she tells her FBI husband that there was someone outside in the woods that spooked the dog-he's like 'it's nothing and I'll put Flynn to bed'! Not getting why Flynn has little memory of his real mother. Didn't his father tell him stories, or show him those videos or photos? It kind of looks like Flynn has been denied anything like that by his father-why was that? Yes, he should be angry that she 'left' him but surely the story would have been that she was doing her job and was killed? Obviously more to unpack with that part of the story. That villain guy was well cast as he scared the you know what out of me . The Detective guy just seems to be trying too hard to be the male versions of a badass Beckett IMO. I know that Police procedures are frequently overlooked in TV/films, but seriously there were two parts that jumped off the screen. One was the blond 'witness' who walked into a police bullpen unescorted and asked to speak to a Detective. Then when she gets the attention of the Angel character who tells her to sit down he doesn't even ask for her name! Based on that statement and yes the DNA under the fingernails of the victim, we have Emily brought in to face questioning over the murder. Second point of probably inadmissible evidence and poor police procedure-they mentioned Emily's responses in a counselling session with her Psychologist. Now surely that would be a patient/client confidentiality thing? Plus the guy playing Emily's lawyer was really weak in that scene. Loved the chemistry with Emily and her father-nice scene there. Speaking of chemistry, I'm not picking it up with the Nick character at all. He seems to be too wooden or something? Always believed that Nathan and Stana drew the best out of each other when they were on song and the writing was good. Not so sure this guy is up for the job? Look, the plot lines are pretty similar to many other stories we have all seen at one point or another. But I will be interested to hear from our US friends here as to the authenticity of the whole Boston thing. I was wondering if I hadn't known where it had been filmed would those niggles on the accents and scenery and even the indoor scenes like the police precinct that I'd have a higher opinion or would be less questioning? So we have a mole in the FBI-that's new LOL. Buckle up we are in for a ride!

Haven't seen any of the episodes, but have seen some peeks with Nick and Emily. I wasn't expecting much chemistry at this point in the story. He's thought she was dead and married another woman. Has to be lots of internal conflict in Nick. He's showing deep sympathy for and loyalty to Emily which is really more than I'd expect in episode 2. I would not expect any romantic connection until much later in the series.

I haven't seen any eps either yet. How did you, latte, in Australia? As for Boston, it was clear from what Ruskin said at MC that the city itself wasn't all that important so I don't think that matters much. Most cities in the US fall off into suburbs and rural areas quite quickly out from the city center. Boston is surrounded by many suburban towns that have houses like that pictured in the stills I've seen. These towns are within commuting distance of downtown and are the preferred places to live for families with kids. Moreover, New England is chock full of woods. Developers often clear just sections of land for the houses and yards, and sometimes even set aside several acres of woods for each development. My parents had 2.5 acres of woods behind their home when they lived outside of Boston. The back looked like they were out in the boonies with no near neighbors, but the front looked like the normal suburban landscape of manicured lawns, sidewalks, etc.
If the story's good enough to engage me, I rarely worry about such things as proper police procedure on TV shows unless the lack of doing something correctly becomes part of the plot. When shows insist on including everything by-the-book, it gets draggy imo, a little too Joe Friday-ish for me (early Dragnet series). Even the Law & Order series take shortcuts. I just assume all those things, like Miranda Rights, are done and we see just the real action.

Stana is doing great work here. Struck me as her best. The supporting actors are keeping up with her, but she is definitely the focus of the show. Some things could have bee melodramatic, but everybody underplayed the scenes. The car driving scene may be the best I've ever seen her do.
Great episode looking for more.

Some people have complained about how "wooden" the Nick character is with Emily and blame the actor. I think Nick is written as emotionally detached from Emily. Here's a wife he thought was dead come back to life after he's left that old life behind. He married another woman and has been raising his son with his new wife. "Conflicted" would be a mild word to describe how someone in Nick's situation would feel. And, if you throw on top the issue that Nick's marriage to Emily was failing then he'll have more conflicts. Then if some how Nick was supposed to "protect" Emily from her ordeal and failed, pile on the guilt. Now, suppose Nick is the dirty FBI agent Emily was getting close to when she was taken ...
Nick's distance, lack of chemistry, from and with Emily was written into the story. More to come.

Help! Is this scene from E2 or E3? As i've said binge watching has merged them all together! I'll move them if they are in the wrong episode. sourceEpisode 2. It's the scene when her dad gave her FBI badge back.

The action continues to be very fast paced throughout. Profound scene when Emily visited Flynn and brought him a present, for which he thanked her, but he also just put it aside and continued playing his video game. Very spooky scene at night, dog barking, Alice goes outside to investigate, BUT takes NO torch, no weapon ie saucepan or rolling pin or etc, Or a mobile phone... just the dog.
Also eerily frightening was when Emily went to see her abductor and accused killer of herself - Conrad Harlow., who is swimming in an indoor pool. He's very creepy and sinister. ---- and later found drowned in same pool....and thus Emily is accused of killing him.....
Its still brilliant to see Stana as Lead Actor!!! and also an Executive Producer!!!).
