Well no LEGO or dress ups in sight in this episode "Child's Play"! Emily has made a miraculous recovery from an abdominal bullet wound I must say-mighty fine work by her brother Jack clearly. The plot is really being stretched way past the point of reality here with so many issues in the writing. Not going to comment on that bright shiny screw in that old dungeon door frame or that you need to turn it anti clockwise to unscrew it. But that's just a tiny thing. Emily continues on the run and as there never appears to be night and day in ABSENTIA, her wardrobe and hair remains the same. But this episode, for me, just didn't hit the desired effect of being set in the city or outskirts of Boston USA. The supporting actors and the sets just didn't give an American vibe-will be interested in comments from our US friends here on that aspect. Pretty sure that Emily has some kind of teleportor or a Wormhole that she can jump into to move around without anyone seeing her. One minute she is at a train station then the next she in a deserted woods. They continue to move her from scene to scene without any thought much on how she gets there or in what time frame it takes. But her own family continues to be her solid ground and not her disbelieving ex husband. No sign of Emily's father in this one and only brief telephone calls with Jack. Like Jack as a character, he has been unpredictable and complex and the actor has really gotten the most out of his part. Remember when they first found Emily in the cabin? Remember when all the FBI Special Ops people couldn't break open the water tank? Turns out it only needs a woman and the leg of table and bingo it's open! Can someone explain to me why Emily needed to sneak into that hotel and into that very open office to use that particular computer? Surely she could have found a computer in a million other more private places? Then in the end she rang Jack to do the search anyway-so why not ask him in the first place? Anyway, Patrick continues to grimace and whisper his way through his scenes. At least in this episode he had some moments of looking more intelligent, which was refreshing. Can't remember any flashbacks in this episode? So we are back where we began in a sense for Emily. So into the woods we go...... onlineland.tv/2017/11/14/watch-absentia-season-1-episode-9-online/

I think the shiny "screw" was a nail as its head was flat and there was nowwhere to insert a screwdriver. Maybe Emily knew that the hotel had a business centre and wasn't expecting it to be the venue for a bit of a do, she probably decided to curtail her search when she noticed the attention she was getting, but the scene seemed to be more an excuse to show Emily being badass, as if we didn't know that already.

Now this episode kept you on the edge of your seat. Some things were a little far-fetched, (it's tv.....not looking for the facts, ma'am, just the show). Threw me for a loop about who ordered the tank. Hope episode 10 brings all the threads together. Best episode to me so far since episode 1. I hope there is a Season 2.

After Emily shoots Nick (and he was wearing a vest), she takes off again in the snow and the camera makes a brilliant job of the slow moving camera as she runs/travels through the snowed woods, then comes across a train station, and crosses the tracks to finally get on a train. The slowing of the camera provided an extremely effective escaping for Emily.
Meanwhile, in the cavern, Alice works frantically to remove the bolt that secures a door? to another room/section, in her quest to find Flynn. She eventually finds him in the water tank which is filling up with water. She manages to break off a table leg and break off the tank lock, and get Flynn out. On their way to somewhere else, Alice is shot by masked person. The masked person reminded me of the psycho psychologist from Castles Hollanders Woods, who wore a mask when committing his crimes.
Tommy and Nick visit Charles too in the institution to get more info/clues. A nurse? tells them that Charles' care is being paid for by someone connected to Harlow. They then search another building, where other abuse/torture happened, and looking from a window across the street, they see a shop with mannequins all wearing masks..... and they realise that the kids when being abused/tortured, could see the shop with the manneqins wearing masks. Seriously creepy again.
Emily finds a cabin in the woods. with a steel cover, and when she opens it, she sees a long pit. She then rings Nick and tells him to meet her there.
Nick thinks that Emily was Harlows mentor......
This ep was 42.24. The tension is now getting to fever pitch as the final ep is upon us, and we wait to see what the heck was going on.

Some trivia:....Executive Producer Julie Glucksman played the psychiatric doctor caring for orphanage child, subject A, Charles Avelone. She was in two scenes: one where Tommy and Neil question her in the ward corridor about Charles at the orphanage being tortured, Emily there too, Harlow, and Subject B.
The other scene was inside Charles' room, about his friend who was mean, and Dr Shen, but Charles got too worked up so the doctor politely asked them to leave.
According to imdb the characters name was Carly Allen.
After rewatching Childs Play again, I gotta say that both Emily and Alice were resourceful re doing things, finding information., whereas Nick was 'useless'.
Alice used the broken off table leg to break into the water tank where Flynn was twice, plus earlier she used various implements found on floor/inside mattress to remove the screw/bolt from the door to escape to look for Flynn. Both Emily and Alice used fierce determination and their intelligence to do things.
Re Harlow, I had a(nother) thought: could he have been a mid teenager at the orphanage before being adopted into the wealthy family? In the 'previously' bits repeated from ep 1 or 2, when Emily hides in shadow of the pool where Harlow is swimming, and he slowly gets out and comes over to her, he says to her that she has the same look in her eyes that he has. , and that got me thinking he was probably also at the orphanage, otherwise where/when did he meet/know the killer reporter? and why did he hate Emily so much??
