Well I watched ep2 and boy was it awful. I don't even know where to begin with how bad it was! And I liked ep1 well enough. I need to check who wrote and directed it, but if the series keeps going down the road of ep2, there won't be a season 3 because anyone other than a Stana fan would probably stop watching this season right now.

^^^ No, no, no. You don't get away with just saying this or that is bad or good here. You have to say specifically what is bad and why you think it is bad. Just trashing something means nothing.

As a foil to that I enjoyed the episode, it was as expected a bit of a filler while both cases....the terrorist and Emily's. ..are fleshed out a little more around the main characters. So obviously there are more questions than answers, and of course anyone could pick holes in the episode, just as we could with Castle but they packed a lot into 40 minutes. This is not an episodic show and room has to be made in the first few episodes to build up the story and new characters, and it is doing this nicely. I felt that Emily was a little too judgemental and hasty with Valarie given her own experiences, and I have to wonder if Warren knows more than he is saying at present about her adoption and real mother/father.

I had to gather my thoughts! Lol. It was like I was watching a completely different series from episode 1. Stana was playing Emily in a different manner and even voice changes like someone else said (she seems to do the breathiness this year that Heusinger had last year, ironically). The dialogue was bad this time, the storylines rushed and choppy, and to me it made no sense that she'd believe the woman and that her dad would get so mad right away. The sex scene this time felt forced as well. Just bad execution all around, and that's why I'm curious who wrote and directed it. Also, Tommy being such a wimp when he wasn't last year is an unnecessary 180. It's like he is mesmerized by Emily, which is silly imo. Anyway, hope ep 3 is better and I'm looking forward to more scenes with Matt lenevez as I thought he was pretty good and very likable in Offspring.

Thank you for your review & not giving to much away. I agree this is not episodic show & don't no why in a lot of countries it's not on streaming. I'm glad we have Prime Video where I live. We just have a bit of a wait.

No problem, but the reviews will no doubt get very specific as the series progresses and the story unfolds.
Clearly Sony AXN and Primes agreement was that AXN and Showcase would network the show before Prime got hold of it in June, the countries airing this is growing rapidly now.

I also have now seen second ep, and liked it. The plots are defintely thickening. Tommy arrests Valerie and takes her in for questioning (we dont see it). Emily has bailed Valerie out and in a move that I dont think is wise, she took Valerie to emilys place, as Valerie says se is being followed but dont know who or why. Emily dosnt know this woman, so it wouldve been better to take her to a cafe/park. I get Valerie says she's being followed, but emily dosnt know her.
Absentia 1 was sort of like Castle pilot aka Flowers for your Grave in which the main players were introduced. Season 2 Absentia is like Castle season 1, ep 2, in which the show is furthered/progressed. In this case, intro of emilys birth mother, a terrorist attack, Emily continuing her search, and that Jack is now working and we learn that alice used to be a therapist and has now returned to it, so the main characters are being progressed.
Emily and Tommy check out Valeries caravan when she isnt there, and find her birth mother papers. We also learn that Valerie was jailed for forgery and didnt have anyone to leave Emily to. We also learn that Valerie is diabetic.
Emily goes to Mercy Hospital and takes a doctors coat and ID and steals some insulin, then gets into Medical Records to check up Valeries medical file, but is questioned by a staffer. I had vibes of season 1 with emily being on the run and accessing hotels/hospitals etc, computers.......
while emily getting Valeries insulin, Flynn walks in Emilys and meets Valerie....., and questions who she is and why she's there...
Emily visits dad Warren. He knew the birth mother was alive. Isnt happy that emily is having contact, and throws her out.....
Emily and Flynn chat about Valerie. emily explains that while Valerie is birth grandmother, that his grandmother was Helen Byrne, who made/gave him his baby blanket.
Valerie is in the toilets wash area at the railway station and .......... happens. I wont divulge.
To me, the story is amping up., but Im not a fan of Emily using Tommy.

Aside from comments above, there's really not a lot to say about this episode. Agree with those who thought Emily's character and even her voice is very different from S1. In this episode Stana used different voices for Emily and that was odd. There is a lot of artificial looking scenes of Boston where it is clear special effects are being used to merge buildings and shop fronts. Normally that would be something difficult to pick up but in Absentia it is a weakness in the production. Everything about the FBI handling of the terrorist attack is amateur hour and embarrassing. Again, the actor playing the profiler was the strong performance. Tommy is a pale shadow of the edgy independent detective of Season one. He is simply Emily's toy boy it would seem and when she calls he appears. The introduction of the birth mother was interesting to say the least. Why did Emily and Tommy not take any pics of the evidence in the trailer? What about all the clippings and posts on the walls? Emily appears to be able to log into the FBI database so is she still on the payroll? Then leaving this woman who she really doesn't know if she is legitimate to stay alone in her apartment is another odd piece of behaviour by Emily.
Now we have another layer of possible trauma/guilt to Emily to deal with if her mother meets foul play after Emily chose to push her away. It would seem the only two characters who are functioning at any where near a normal level are Jack and Alice! Good for them!
Thus far I'm not seeing the same heights of performance from Stana as in the first season. Hoping for things to improve once we get past Ruskin Directing. Perhaps those commenting that watching the season in one binge session does make a difference to the enjoyment of the show? Episode by episode it does resemble a movie that has been cut into smaller parts and stitched together for a season at this point-as did S1.

S2E2 showed up on Facebook from some site I follow. I watched about half and found it well done. I like the birth mother character. Good dialogue. Well written. The actress doing the birth mother is a gem. Like the new female agent at the FBI as well. From this small sample I consider the writing is better than last year. Plotting looks interesting with more hooks for the audience to recognize and feel comfortable with for the moment. Production locations look like they did pretty much in S1. For someone who knows Boston, it's not. But, it wasn't last season either. Again from this small sample of the show, I'd say that they did some of the things that they needed to do - stronger female characters around Emily, more for the other characters from last year, dialing back Emily a bit. Love the birth mom character. Good acting. Good story and dialogue. Yeah, so far, interesting, good. I'll be watching it all. Long way to go.
Well, got a chance to see the rest of episode 2. Like it all. Not as frantic as last year, but then Emily is in a different place. At least she isn't being threatened with drowning ever so often or chained to a wall or punched around. She's not in a great place psychologically, but she has some big parts of her life under control.
Dialogue is better. Plotting is better easier to follow. Most of the characters have moved forward with their lives. It's not Father Knows Best normal, but it's way better than last year. All has to do with the slightly slower pace of the story. That will probably change soon.

For me S1 pace was similar in first 2 or 4 episodes. The first episode was bam! and then they started to pile up the elements of different kinds. You find things when Emily and the rest of the team find them. From episode 5 the pace started to quicken, and the last 3 episodes were sprint to the end. I expect something similar in S2 when different lines start to converge.
After ep2. I think Emily's clothes just picture how she feels right now. I don't think she uses Tomy for info. After all he offered his "friendship" at the end of S1. You don't call just anybody to talk to you through the night because you're afraid to go to sleep. It's some kind of companionship and it obviously suits them both.
Her biological mother is another bag of problems. Was she paranoid because she is sick, or was she paranoid beacuse there is a ral threat? It seems it's option 2. So, now Emily threw her out of the flat and Emily's stepfather threw Emily out too. And Emily was the last person to see her. Nice. If Valery ends up dead who's gonna be the main suspect?
Since I don't know what Boston looks like (as probably half the people (at least) watching Absentia outside of USA), I don't care. They did some CGA this time to give it some authenticity. I didn't care for people in short sleeves in the background while Beckett and Castle were wearing New York winter coats. So, that's it.
What I do not understand is why do you need Emily's character to be likeable? What do you mean by likeable? I loved some characters in other shows and they were not likeable at all. Example: every character Jessica Lange played in AHS. Anyone who watched AHS knows what I'm talking about. Also, has anyone read Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell Series by Chelsea Cain? Castle was reading Swetheart while waiting for Alexis to return from that junior-senior prom in S1 or S2. Gretchen likeable? Yeah, right.

Yes, still agree with my first assessment. This is shaping up to be great.
