Don't know where the "LOL" tag from me on this post came from, as I had no intention of using it and don't see how to remove it. Anyway, what I did want to say was related to your post in the other thread - how are we going to define a spoiler if it's running in one country and not in another? Based on the situation right now the entire season is a spoiler in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, but not in Canada, so I don't have any good idea of how that should be handled.

If you click on the symbol for LOL again it should negate your first action. In regard to your comment on defining a spoiler and the challenge with staggered viewing timetables it is a challenge to attempt to protect those who wish to keep the suspense of not knowing too much of the plot before watching. What I think is best is to edit the title on threads such as this and include 'SPOILERS' so that it is clear what you might read here?

That definitely seems reasonable - there was something like that on the Castle boards when the show was on a day earlier in Canada. It will just be strange if those will remain spoilers indefinitely if the show doesn't make a deal for all of those countries, which I would think constitute a healthy majority of the members here.

Thanks for the support. TBH the whole distribution of ABSENTIA is 'strange' and it certainly is going to set some challenges for many fans to access it. But let's see how things pan out-hoping the US and the UK get some positive news soon. Will leave the SPOILER headings- buyer beware as they say. See you had a family wedding recently NYer? Hope it all went smoothly.

Lots of craziness going on now, of course, but hopefully it will all be without incident on that day!

Watched on onlineland.tv/2017/09/26/watch-absentia-season-1-episode-2-online/Early thoughts. Great to see Stana back on the screen. Personally saw a lot of Beckett in the character but think that is probably due to her playing another Law Enforcement Officer. I also had 'Castle' flashbacks through some scenes-need to detox myself! Pretty much agree with comments that most of E1 was covered in the various spoilers and promos. There were also cuts in the episode where it was just a blank screen-probably where they actually did cut down to 43 minutes and also maybe where commercials will be inserted? Not yet feeling much chemistry between the two leads. There was a pivotal scene in the hospital where Emily notices the wedding ring (not theirs) on Nick's hand. Stana nailed the facial expression but not so much Patrick-he doesn't have expressive eyes and is too wooden. Great choice of the creepy early villain-seriously not a nice person. Some details that were poorly executed-small things like when they rescued Emily from the water tank and placed her on the stretcher and then in the ambulance and even at the ER no one thought that perhaps a near drowning victim might need oxygen-yikes that's first aid #101. Stana nailed some of the intense scenes-her eyes never let those moments down. Scenes with her son-heartbreaking. Since when can a counselling session with a Psychologist be filmed and used as evidence against you? That counselling scene had me back at Dr Burkes office! Some of the 'American' accents were poor. Then they didn't even bother in the hospital. The writing was at times too predictable and lacked real depth. Did anyone else need more markers on the time lapses-like when the two weeks were mentioned I was confused as to how long Emily had been freed. Her brother kind of disappeared himself and that was odd as she was living in his apartment. Leaving it there, as I say my early thoughts at this point. But gosh it was great to see Stana back on deck-been a long wait!

Somber, brooding, and unpleasant. That's what they were going for, and that's what they achieved. The unrelenting greens and blues and shadows (with the notable exception of the video Emily was watching of her with baby Flynn and the puppy, which was warm and bright) very effectively gave a sickly effect all the way through, so kudos to the director and cinematographer.
The acting, on the other hand, was definitely not to my liking. It was all one note, with no shading at all that I could see. They definitely got the intensity down, but there wasn't much acting going on from my point of view. All of the characters came off as very stiff to me; that was no doubt at least in part deliberate, to give the sense of how everyone is in a panic over the sudden change in their lives, but for me it made it tough to really care about any of them, including Emily. There would be a sudden spark of something different - Emily's anger at Nick spending the six years "f***ing someone else", Flynn saying "you hurt my mom" - but then it was immediately dropped. I think they made a mistake in cramming the Samarov cliffhanger into this first episode; I would have instead spent more time on trying to add some layers to all of the characters. The series is only 10 episodes long - they didn't need a cliffhanger to try to make sure people came back after the first one.
Full disclosure - this is a show I would never watch if Stana wasn't in it. This is most definitely not my thing, and others who like this kind of dark psychological thriller might have very different views from mine. I imagine I'll stick with it all the way through, but I will be surprised if I end up liking it very much.

I'm in Texas...have downloaded eps 1 & 2, both in English. I've watched ep, 1 & 2 but was afraid to download. I used the links on #absentia. onlineland.tv/?s=absentia&search=Search Would you mind sharing the link that you used for downloads? When the show is released in the US I will watch multiple times to make up for this, so I don't feel too guilty. BTW - I can't wait to watch the rest of the episodes. Stana is just amazing in this show. She looks so alone you just want to give her a hug. She is just heartbroken over her son. Even her husband seems to totally not understand. Based on the sneak for ep 3 that may finally be changing a little. Thank goodness. This is one of the few shows that reminds me of "24" where I could barely wait for the next episode and was emotionally and physically worn out by the end of it. I think it is a huge hit. Hopefully other AXN channels jump on board and the US goes ahead and announces sooner than later.

You were able to be a little more objective than I was. I was just so glad to see Stana acting again that I kinda blew past the accents that weren't exactly perfect and also the minimal medical attention given. Thanks so much for your input. Love to keep hearing from you. The place just isn't the same without you.

Terrific show. Very much in the current European stye for cop dramas. Fast paced. Very emotional as you might expect with Emily being declared dead and her family having moved on. Like the camera work and the directing. Writing is good. The show really moves along so dialogue is spare, but significant.
Stana is excellent. I see why she did the project. Supporting actors are good. There area lots of them and they pop up all over the place. Still sorting out who will be important.
Absentia is drama every minute. No laughs. Characters are less glamorous than they are in Castle. No hair porn for Stana.
All in all exciting, engaging. Great vehicle for Stana. Looking forward to more.

It's unnerving when the ad sites pop in but you need to close those windows and the site window will be behind them. I'm told I should have 'adblocker', so I'm going to look into that aspect. Hearing the links are now dead but I can't confirm that. Thought it odd that it was only six episodes. Why stop at six? Could have been a deliberate leak to get people hooked and perhaps in six weeks there will be the US launch????

Last paragraph from a Spanish review of episode 1
Although what we are proposing Absentia is nothing more than a new version of something we have seen a hundred times, the truth is that at least you can stand alone without falling into too many of the usual cliches. His plot has enough potential to seduce the viewer and Katic does the rest. That yes, I expect a development of some of the other characters since, for now, most of them lack interest when they appear on the screen. If the balance between family and criminal drama remains correct and the series knows how to exploit the main mystery, we will have something more than acceptable to follow in the coming weeks. Absentia is not up to the great dramas of the genre that arrive from the United Kingdom, but has little to envy to the latest American productions within it.
My comment on the above review - Accurate review for the first episode. Yes, Stana "does the rest." She is better than anything she did at Castle. I assume the reviewer is talking about British shows such as The Tunnel, Prime Suspect 1973, Endevor and the like out of the UK. And, the reviewer dose not think much of the cop/mystery/thrillers coming out of the US studios right now. Neither do I. So we appear to have similar tastes. (Absentia has been produced on a budget much lower than anything the BBC or US productions work with.) Like the first episode of The Tunnel (ripped off from The Bridge, a Danish production) you are thrown into the middle of an incident and work your way out. The reviewer expects to do the same with Absentia. We'll see how it comes out. An interesting backhanded complement to Absentia in that last sentence. (Sort of like the reviewer's attitude.)

German review of episode 1
Conclusion
"Absentia" is a gripping and atmospherically close-up psychothriller who makes you want more. Stana Katic, the leading actress, contributes decisively with her thrilling performance and shows a relentless emotionality, which hardly leaves you unaffected.
As long as the story does not drift into the abstruse or too much construed, contrary to expectations, and the so far promising character traits are consistently pursued, it looks as if AXN has drawn a small pearl here.
Short, but nice. Like the list phrase, "a small pearl."

Don't worry, be happy, we will get it in the US, legally and without risking our computers. What the heck is a CC number anyway? As for surviving the delay, I feel as if I'm tip-toeing through quicksand. I want some info, but not too much, so I find myself reading bits of posts, then stopping when things get too detailed. Yet I can't stay completely away. LOL at myself.
