ABC have "gifted" NF the so called Tuesday 10pm Death Slot where he will be up against NBC's new "New Amsterdam", and probably CBS's "NCIS-New Orleans" tvline.com/2018/05/15/abc-fall-lineup-2018-roseanne-the-rookie-schedule/NEW AMSTERDAM STUDIO: Universal TV/Pico Creek Productions TEAM: David Schulner (w, ep), Peter Horton (d, ep), Dr. Eric Manheimer (p) LOGLINE: Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America, it follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map. CAST: Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, Tyler Labine I seem to remember Jocko Sims from Beckett's ill fated time in DC, but those episodes aren't amongst the ones I rewatch regularly. Love the term Death Slot.....except Castle was also on 10pm....on Monday nights..... I do so hope that rookie dosnt get past ep 3-5 before its cancelled. Re Castles DC stint, I fast forward and only watch the Caskett scenes.

Ok, so I have seen both the teaser and the trailer and I can't really put into words how I felt about it. Perhaps it is my bias against Nathan (although I will always love him as Castle) but it just looked like some old guy trying to recapture his youth and failing. He looked physically not capable of catching a criminal. I just wish that Nathan had chosen another project. The trailer has definitely made me decide that I won't bother watching.
Also those of you who know this kind of stuff, do you think that if ABC don't get the numbers they were expecting after say the first 5 episodes that they will not show whatever episodes are done or will they simply not renew?
B :-)

B :-) Not getting the numbers expected is the major reason most networks drop a project. Depending on how bad the number are and what ABC has to replace a given show will determine if and when the network will pull the plug. Things would have to be pretty bad and ABC would have to have a show in the can waiting for a slot for the network to pull it quickly. The trailer does not make the Rookie look like it might be fun to watch. That is sort of the bottom line on any TV show or movie - Is it fun to watch? At the moment the Rookie does not look like it would be much fun to watch.

I watched the first episode of season four of The Bridge last week, I don't think "fun" would describe the watch, but it was "gripping", looking forward to the rest, it was a pity BBC 2 spoilt somewhat the cliffhanger ending with their preview of the next episode but not really a surprise.

I did think that the Nordic original version was somewhat better than The Tunnel.

Sorry, Wrigley City. There's nothing awesome about that brief teaser, nor anything reminiscent of Castle. Nothing witty in the dialogue and Nathan's straining to deliver his line with some suggestion of relevance and realism. Unfortunately, they've already made the mistake of telling rather than showing the importance of being a cop is to him, something Castle didn't do with Beckett. The Rookie looks amazing, and with the full trailer, its looks better than that. Of course, the best thing about it was it didn't look or sound anything like Castle. So, hate if like. It doesn't matter. It's going to be very successful regardless.

I've noticed a tendency of NF fans to immediately accuse anyone who criticises their man as a "hater", well I don't "hate" him, I just think he's not that good. I hadn't heard of him before Castle but there was nothing about his performance to entice me to watch anything else he appears in. I considered his dramatic scenes as Castle as hit and miss, his portrayal of a romantic lead embarrassing at times, and the humour became more juvenile the longer the show lasted. I don't devote a lot of time to watching TV so I tend to be very picky what I tune in for and this won't make the list, and if that makes me a "hater" so be it.

One of the reason I like this board is that it's ok to disagree and make it public. Your not a fan of The Rookie Trailer, and that's ok. For Nathan, if you look at his full body of work, its clear the man is a professional actor with lots of talent. (The man was in a Spielberg movie when Spielberg was still good.) In a much as I loved Castle, but no one on that show was getting a legitimate acting award. The show was fun, and it lasted 8 years. In Hollywood, that is a success. Its time we all put the past to bed, and move on.

It's boring and seems like a retread of something from decades ago. Nathan's contributions of flaring nostrils to show drama and the overly earnest dialog don't help. It seems old before it's even new.

The premise is old and has been done for women as cops, blacks as cops, Hispanics as cops etc. Now it's the slightly older white male's turn. Sorry, but I couldn't be less excited. Forty? Not old enough to begin with, not today at least. But even that's not the main problem. Any time I'm told within a minute by the lead character that he is gonna be oh, so noble, I lose interest. Nuff said.

As for Nathan, he has a limited talent for a limited range of roles. As long as he's hired to play to his strengths, he'll do ok. jmo The Spielberg role was the kind of job hundreds of young, good looking actors get. They are dozens of such roles like that for men, rarely any for women.

JNorton - thanks for your response about why and IF ABC would not show all the episodes that may have been filmed. I'm also not a lover of westerns but The Searchers is surely one of John Wayne's best? Quasar - LOVED Police Woman. Loved the characters but those fashions, nuff said! B :-)

B :-) I have always been a fan of Westerns. Not all of them, but many of them. I first saw The Searchers as a mid teen at high school and was so impressed and moved by it, that eve since then - over 40 years later, I always watch it when on, and last year was able to buy the dvd of it. To me its a brilliant story of love, devotion, determination to find the kidnapped and brought up Indian, the little niece of John Waynes character. Totally agree that its one of his best films ever. Extremely well acted by all. Re Policewoman, I know that it was on over 40 years ago, but dont remember much of it. I do think that she however and Cagney and Lacey, were the forerunner of todays women cops. They were their own women, and didnt take rubbish from anyone., and knew they were a rare breed as in those days, women werent cops normally, and especially not detectives. We've (they've) come a heck of a long way since then, thank goodness., but still got a way to go.

Re Castles DC stint, I fast forward and only watch the Caskett scenes. i believe Castle was a mid season addition. They gave Castle a great spot behind high rated Dancing with the Stars. To give The Rookie the "death slot" might mean they dont think too highly of it.

Ok, I don't know if I mentioned this before and I only ever use imdb as a guide but I find it a little weird that Nathan is about half way down the cast list? There are 8 actors/characters above Nathan/Nolan. Any thoughts? www.imdb.com/title/tt7587890/?ref_=nv_sr_1 - I hope the link works. B :-)

I'd put the order of the actors in The Rookie down to inattention to detail.

What about Stana? She was/ I s a True Female Lead actor., having been in Castle for 8 seasons, and led to acclaim, Absentia, and now Miss Atkins Army as lead. But of course. jnorton45's key term is 'awhile'. My key is like counting the dates: Before Stana and After Stana. Edit: I apologize for confusing everyonesfriend's post with jnorton45's.

No offence to other actresses, but fillion truly met his match acting wise with Stana. I agree with others who say that they brought out the best in each other in their scenes together (mainly in the earlier seasons). Im thinking that the Rookie is also for him to prove that he can lead a show without Stana. I hope he falls on his backside. Very quickly.

I guess I should have known better than to come here. Stana has nothing to do with this show, but of course the talk always turns to what a great actress she is, while Nathan is called a mediocre actor with limited ability and many hope the show is cancelled after 4 or 5 episodes. I just wonder what would have happened if someone had said they hoped Absentia was canceled quickly? or that Stana's new movie is a flop. Since it's allowed for Nathan, I'm sure it would be acceptable for Stana.
