Hi everyone
Do you think that ABC have learnt their lesson from the lack of advertising for Castle? Or do you think that this show is the one that they feel has the best chance of success for the coming season so they are putting it everywhere?

Couple reasons
ABC Television just a bunch of new execs from the Fox deal. Regardless ABC needs a big win. Usually you put on a big splash to get a new show started. Often lots of advertising says that the show ain’t much, but maybe we can some people to byte.
Pick one, all or none.

Ordinarily I'd agree with the idea that the more publicity the show gets, the more worried the network is. But in this case I'm not so sure. They may be out there, but, I haven't read one negative review so far this pre-season. I can't say that about most any other new shows this year. Of course, viewers can have completely different ideas. I'll give it a try, as none of the other new shows have particularly excited me, I am a sucker for police procedurals, and I happen to like most the shows that Nathan Fillion has done.

This has nothing to do with the rookie, but.........if anyone has seen Canadian show Murdoch Mysteries, this show too is based on a real person, and he revolutionised police work at the time. I have seen a few eps of this series., but we here are about 2-4 seasons behind. Also, the female lead, the MO, played by Helene Joy, is Australian.

What happened to the other Rookie thread? The only change has been to elevate TR threads to stand alone on the main menu window, as per Absentia. More info needed please.

There were 2 threads for The Rookie. One was for spoilers and one more general but no spoilers. The no spoilers thread is no longer on the board. Just wondering why and where it’s gone. Can it be recovered?

Nothing was deleted but there was a transfer to a new thread. Have checked the security logs in case there was an accidental deletion but there's no record there either. Thinking what's happened is that this thread was renamed from 'general discussion' into 'episode discussion'-in anticipation of when TR commences. That change was made in September when the thread was repositioned on the Board. So perhaps that's what has caused the confusion? Happy to create a third thread with NO SPOILERS if you think its needed.

I found it, but the link back in Fillion doesn’t take me to the new location of the thread. Thanks for your help and nice job managing this board.

Reviews are mediocre at best. None lead me to watch the recording I made of the pilot. We’ll see what some other reviewers have to say. The thoughts seem to go from bland and uninteresting to offensive.
The Castle pilot was a knockout beginning to end. Still is. They struggled to get 13 episodes that first season and then the second season was a struggle to get as well.
We’ll see how the ratings are.

As this is the aired pilot there was a lot going on this in episode. I love the ensemble cast, and I think there are several story lines that could keep it around for awhile. Nathan Fillion's character is "vulnerable and appealing". So, if you have only seen him on Castle and Firefly, I think you are going to see a true acting range from him that will surprise a lot of fans.
But for the Castle crowd, I will give you one for free....John Nolan is Kate Beckett, on their first day as a Cop. Motivated and awkward with the heart to do some good.

They're mediocre - a 1.0 in the demo, 5.38 million viewers. That's lower than the last season of Castle, but of course that was 2 1/2 years ago, and all ratings are down since then. As the article says, Tuesdays at 10 have been a vast wasteland for ABC for years, but that didn't prevent them from canceling shows that weren't doing well. The ratings in a few weeks will tell more of a story - will viewership grow because of positive word of mouth, will it shrink as often happens after a pilot, will it hold steady? ABC spent a lot of money advertising the show, particularly on related networks (I was amazed how many times I saw ads on ESPN, which is hardly the sweet spot for those who have historically been NF fans) - will that continue?

I didn't watch it so have nothing to say personally but I came across this via someone's Twitter. This group really didn't like it and for all the reasons I anticipated which led me not to watch. Is anyone familiar with this website? Any background on it you can share? Thanks. Writers of the Roundtable - Try It or Trash It

The article goes on to mention that 1.0 in the demo and 5.38 million viewers is a big step up for ABC in the 10 slot on Tuesday. If The Rookie can maintain this rating it will a relative success for ABC. It is a mediocre show, but it’s a step up for the network. ABC may consider The Rookie a blazing success among among the graveyard of previous failures in this time slot. Expectations are a great deal, if not everything. I find it interesting that the high bar of the first 5+ seasons from Fillion and Katic working face to face on Castle remains a measure of the work of Fillion and Hawley in that engineered this show from the ground up. That collaboration on Castle remains a measure of quality for Katie as well.

No idea who these people (all women) are. Many of the comments were very overtly political, so their obvious distaste for the show might not translate to those with different views. I have no comment, since I didn't watch the show, and am not going to in the future (I've made no secret of the fact that I find Fillion to be a mediocre-at-best actor, and way below mediocre in the last couple of seasons of Castle and the guest appearances on Modern Family). I assume the "Writes of the Roundtable" (Writes, not Writers) is a play on "Knights of the Roundtable."

Don't know what happened with the link but I attribute the other to needing new computer glasses, again, after just six months, and the cursive font. :):) Good catch and definitely a play on words. I was just wondering if the participants were chosen because they were Castle fans with a grudge against Nathan. In any case, their analysis was fairly thorough and I thought interesting.

Watched first episode. like watching a soap. Some interesting plot points. Just not enough to carry a whole season. Is it true he is already having issues with a female co-star?

For the sake of his loyal fans, I hope they do "....see a true acting range from him that will surprise a lot of fans". Reviews so far have not exactly been effusive but you never know, lots of the same comment that 'he is likeable'. Will be interesting how it is all received. But, I think the comparison with a KATE BECKETT is inaccurate from the snippets I've seen. Was there an iconic first scene with Nolan that could compare with Beckett's first scenes on Castle? Because that's when I knew I was watching something special happening on the screen. Haven't (yet) seen any comments reflecting that uniqueness.

Wow, is it really as bad as they are saying? The really striking thing is that the group is giving criticism the way it should be done. They are all very specific in their comments. This a very knowledgeable group of writers. As one person said ABC may keep The Rookie around for awhile, because they haven’t got anything better, but the show is poorly done on many levels. Made me feel bad for the supporting actors, but a gig’s a gig.

I didn't find this site, someone else did and posted an incorrect link. I also pointed out how overtly political the post on the site was (thereby potentially invalidating what they're saying for many people), also making clear that I had no comment to make on it, since I didn't watch the show. Good job with your overtly sexist reaction to it, however. Most trolls at least try a little bit to not be so blatantly obvious about it.
